LUFC Mario Party League's Biggest Season Announced

It’s that time of the year again! We here at Level Up For Charity are thrilled to announce that the LUFC Mario Party League is returning for its seventh season. This season comes with some of the biggest changes we’ve made to the league, ranging from an expansion of new committee members, new MPL Proctors members, to season length changes and much more!

We take the feedback of our community and especially our players seriously, so with this year, we’ve evolved the LUFC Mario Party League to the next level with quite a few changes. We’ll summarize the changes below, but for right now, let’s take a moment to introduce some new team members. Our LUFC MPL Committee has been a group of five individuals, Rumtin, froggydojo, nima74, Dylan The Dude, ItsJordanB, who have helped design one of the best Mario Party Leagues in the world over the last six seasons. Thanks to the growth and success of the league, we’re proud to announce two more new committee members: Typh and E-77.

Meet The Team

Typh has been a longtime supporter of Level Up For Charity, ranging from helping with LUFC MPL broadcasts as a producer, being the primary video editor of Level Up For Charity since July, a community moderator for LUFC, and being a fundamental top player in the LUFC MPL for multiple seasons, boasting multiple records in the Mario Party Netplay server, and also a top 20 record holder for Mario Party 3’s Story Mode Speedrun.

E-77 is arguably one of the greatest classic Mario Party players of all time, boasting an impressive amount of records in the Mario Party Netplay Discord server, a former champion of the LUFC Mario Party League, and a consistent top three player throughout his career. E-77’s depth of game and board knowledge is something that will be tremendously valued here as a part of the committee. We’re thrilled to have both Typh and E-77 join a veteran team to continue to make the MPL even better in future seasons

Along with new committee members, we’re also thrilled to announce two new team members for our qualifier periods: W1nata and O w e n! Both fundamental and experienced players from the MPL, we’re thrilled to have them join our team to help with the qualifier periods happening in the beginning of 2023.

Format Changes

Now, let’s talk changes, and we made a ton of them. To start with, let’s focus on some large changes affecting the league, such as the new season schedule.

Streaming: Going forward in 2023, the LUFC Mario Party League will be hosted on YouTube! Make sure to subscribe to our YouTube (links above) to be ready for the weekend action and instant VOD access!

Season Format: The season has been condensed into a ten-week format, where eight weeks will be the regular season, and two weeks for the playoffs and finals of the league. We removed two weeks to help accommodate the ability to play all games more fairly, where now every game is played once with community’s choice in week eight being open to any game now. Here are the other notable changes:

Qualifiers: Games played will now be three games: one N64 title, one GC title, then one GC or N64 title. Proctors will be utilizing a tool called “whenisgood.net” to help with showing availabilities for all proctors at one time, that way players qualifying can just choose a single time slot. Qualifiers will take place from January 1 to February 25, 2023. During your qualifier period, proctors may ask to play some mini games to test further skill, depending on the game.

Scheduling: Players will be notified that they were selected for the league, then allowed a thirty day period to review their upcoming ten week schedule and coordinate for any rescheduling or changes during this time. Players will only have the ability to make one schedule request during the season, which also counts as their “no-show bot” if they choose to use it during the season.

Battle Minigames: Battle Minigames will not affect minigame star. Players will be utilizing cheats to disable the ability to have battle minigame coins won affect minigames.

“No-Show” Bot: Some players that went through qualifiers but did not make it will still qualify to be a “secondary” player. This means that the player will fill in for the one “no-show bot” game that a player may request to have during the season. The secondary player may help to influence their chances in future seasons by competing at their best level on behalf of another player. The committee will choose this player when the time comes. However, with this comes a penalty. The placing of the individual will have a “-1” added to their points, except for fourth place.

Finals: Finals will now be three games at 20 turns each.

Additional Changes: For any additional changes, please see the LUFC Mario Party League rules, located at https://levelupfc.org/mpl-rules.

We’re absolutely excited about this upcoming season. Some of the best of the best will be fighting for their place back at the top, and new players to make names for themselves in the Mario Party community. Get ready for all the action this spring, and more to come soon!
